“Here To Fade” // New Tape Waves

Goose Tree

I must have been living under a rock all summer because Tape Waves snuck a new album out from under my nose and it’s fantastic.

Ok, quick back story. I don’t really remember how I stumbled across Tape Waves. I wish I could tell you this cool story about how I saw them in a weird DIY show in a Royal Farms parking lot or something, but I can’t (prolly just found them online being an internet recluse). But the guitars, the sound that Jarod produces from his guitar affects me the same way as Johnny Marr’s. Yes, that’s a BIG comparison, but I’m just saying.

“Here To Fade” is their newest project that was released off of Bleeding Gold Records on July 29th, 2016. The stand-out song to me are “So Fast” and “Nowhere”.

Both “So Fast” and “Nowhere” are very drum driven and jangly. That’s what think draws me to Tape…

Tape Waves is Kim and Jarod Weldin, a dream pop duo from Charleston, South Carolina. With shimmery guitars and hushed vocals that repeatedly charm the blogosphere, their songs evoke images of hazy summer days and young love. Their sun-drenched pop songs have garnered attention from numerous media outlets including NYLON, BlackBook and Impose. Their sophomore LP titled ‘Here To Fade’ is released with Bleeding Gold Records on July 29th, 2016. The 10-song album is available as a limited edition colored gatefold vinyl 12″(blue/white swirl and grey), as well as CD and digital format.

Listen: Tape Waves – ‘Standing In Line’

Killer Ponytail

tape wavesYou know summer has truly arrived when Charleston’s Tape Waves release a new record.

Not only does the duo’s sonic aesthetic conjure up the essence of a beach breeze, but their sound also seems to encapsulate an emotional longing with which it’s nearly impossible not to relate.

The band’s second album, Here To Fade is slated for release on 29 July via Bleeding Gold Records, and the latest cut ‘Standing In Line’ is the perfect introduction to Tape Waves’ approach to soulful dream pop.

The track rushes in with echo chamber guitars interweaving an intoxicating melody before Kim Hart Weldin’s vocals rise like a plush hit of summer air.

But the song’s summery disposition belies a knowingly sombre subject matter. The band say this of the track:

“‘Standing In Line’ recalls that lovesick feeling, when you’re waiting on the person you love to live up to your ideal…

Track of the day #92 : Tape Waves – So Fast

Posted in Band Update, Music with tags , , , , , , on July 13, 2016 by bleedinggold

Mix It All Up

Tape Waves are dreampop duo, Jared and Kim Weldin from Charleston, SC. The band are set to release their sophomore album ‘Here To Fade’ on 29th July 2016 and the first track from the album is ‘So Fast‘.

For a track which instrumentation is almost quite folky in nature regarding the guitar and basslines, this dreampop track is not typical of its counterparts. This is only a good thing and makes ‘So Fast’ a rather unique track. The soft vocals throughout are contrasting to the instrumentation, drowned in reverb in which the colourful guitar melodies stand out against.

The track ‘So Fast’ will be available on Tape Waves next album ‘Here To Fade’ which will be released at the end of this month, but  for now, you can listen to it via Soundcloud below.
