Killer Ponytail

tape wavesThe heady days of summer may be behind us (or ahead of us if you’re a bit more optimistic) but fear not – US east coast duo Tape Waves are here to add some much needed sunshine to your life. The band released what was undoubtedly one of last year’s stand-out albums in the form of Let You Go, and with the first run of the album now long sold out, the band are releasing a second press run on the ever dependable Bleeding Gold Records.

The re-press comes with a bonus remix of dreamy album opener ‘Slow Days’ and we’re proud to be premiering the track right here.

The remix comes courtesy of fresh faced UK producer Whitely who takes the bright dream pop washes of the original and injects them with a softly pacing tribal drum build before launching into a blissed-out hook of resonating synths and…

Moses Gold is the creative vision of Manchester’s Phill Young. Formed in 2013 after the dissolution of his previous project, the critically acclaimed Christian AIDS/Stay+, Young re-emerged with some of the most extraordinarily heart-rending and beautiful music that the city has ever heard. Working with producer Ben Pearson (Espher) the wounded baritone of Young’s voice glows against a sparkling electronic backdrop. Vivid and visceral, Young’s expression of loneliness and regret is littered with melancholy and tiny glimpses of hope. Confrontational, but more emotionally than physically, he’s been described as “Ian Curtis trapped in a 21st century nightmare.”

Debut single ‘Paradise Lost’ features a collaboration with former bandmate and friend London based producer Stay Positive (Black Butter, RAMP, OWSLA) Young who has previously spoken with unerring honesty about his  long-term battle with depression, wants to create music people“can relate to and respond to. Not enough singers do that.”  After leaving his previous band it was vital for Young to continue to make music to challenge himself and his audience. Enter Moses Gold, meaning “Prophet of Greed” whose début single ‘Paradise Lost’ is a huge statement of intent and the first step in achieving the ambitious goal Young has set himself “to write an album as beautiful as ‘Kid A’ or as honest as ‘Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space’. ‘Paradise Lost’  is released March 10th on limited edition 12″ vinyl.

“The lead single is a piece of synth heavy indie pop majesty which is really driven forward by the excellent vocals, the track also has a good retro feel to it without trying to sound like anything else.  B-Side Santa Clara is a mellower affair and its looping synths really keep you engaged in the track throughout to make up a really good tune.”  –Impropaganda
